DO YOU SELL EMAIL ADDRESSES?

Well, that depends entirely on how much money you have. Can we retire afterwards? If not, well then, the answer is no. We're legally obliged not to do that. It's also a DMA thing. And we're founding members.

But, for example, do you know that the Department of Home Affairs freely sells your ID Number and fingerprint information to various companies? It's true unfortunately. And the point we're trying to make is that information is readily available out there for anyone who wants to get their hands on it.

Information privacy is a very sticky issue for so many people, and after years of fielding (very angry and very rude) phone calls and (size 400, colour red font) emails, with lots and lots and lots of swearwords in them, we really know how a lot of people feel about their personal info. In fact, we feel the same way.

That's why we keep all your information absolutely safe. We send to our own database, we keep it regularly updated, we unsubscribe the people who want to be unsubscribed and we don't sell lists. To anyone. Ever. Not even our oldest clients or dearest friends.

WHERE DID YOU GET MY INFO?!

Honestly? You probably gave it to us. Probably. At an event you attended, or on your business card. Otherwise, we researched it telephonically or it's in the public domain.

By public domain of course, we mean you're employed by a listed company, or your details are in a newspaper or trade or industry journal and/or you are publicly listed as a contact reference for your company.

WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU KEEP ON RECORD?

Really juicy stuff. Just kidding. Boring server-intensive stuff actually. We usually know if you are male or female and the company you work for. We know lots about the company you work for.

In fact we really like info about the company you work for. We like to know about the company name, their divisions, the branches, the branch telephone numbers, the company website, the correct format of company email addresses, company postal addresses. There's lots of data about the company you work for.

Oh yes and a bit more about you. Like your firstname and surname, your gender, job title, and work email address. The rest (well even the work email address) belongs to the company anyway.

Stuff we don't hang on to includes salary info, marital status, kids, like or dislikes. And while we do get enquiries about golfers and art buyers on a fairly regular basis, we have to turn those down, because we aren't into that sticky, personal, get-you-into-trouble kind of information.

The only kind of vaguely personal information we'd ever be interested in is your date of birth, so that we know your age, and that's just because we get really cool offers and specials from time-to-time on stuff like brand new cars. And we'd love to give you the opportunity to be the first to know about things like that. Oh, and if you have a degree, which one you have. That's just so we don't send you course information on that same degree.

But mostly and honestly, we're a B2B database - so for us, it's really all about the company you work for.
